STONELAKE Interview

MEL DELACROIX / HARD FORCE WEB :

ENGLISH VERSION

Hello Stonelake, can you present members s' Stonelake to the public?

Hi there! Peter Grundström - Vocals , Jan Åkesson - Guitars,
backgroundvocals - Lasse Johansson - Bass , Annika Argerich - Keyboards
, Fredrik Joakimsson - Drums.

For those who have not yet read my column about your new album

"Monolith", how you talk about your musical style?

We can define our style as Melodic progressiv metal!

What are your influences? Same question for **Peter Grundström, this

incredible singer :

Our influences comes from the 70's and 80's hardrock bands such as Deep
Purple, Bad Company and later Whitesnake to name a few.

Peter's favorite singers who had influenced him are Paul Rodgers (Bad
Company) , Steve Perry ( Journey) , Guy Speranza (Riot) among others.

You includenumber of external influences in your powerful metal music. ?

Who are the artists that are out metal you like?

There are so many great bands today so it's not easy to pick one out ,
but Masterplan is one of the great bands that sometimes gets our
attention.

6 th album to date in 10 years, how do you keep this pace?

For the love and passion of music!

It's a blessing for us!

Can you talk a little about the genesis of this new album?

We wanted a new arena for StoneLake musically , so we took the
decision to develop our sound , songwriting and arrangement in our songs.

The lyrics are rather a statement level. A little more info about the

lyrics?

The lyrics to all songs except Notorious were written by Adam Bard, a
British lyricist who Jan had worked with on other projects in the last
couple of years and a writer who has worked with many of the top
performers in British Musical Theatre as well as pop and rock artists.
The songs all had to have a strong emotional content, with the subjects
being exploration of confusion or delusion, mostly about love – except
'Hater' which is about bullying and domination using criticism rather
than physical abuse.

The music has a strong driving heart and a darkness that suggested the
lyric should have a few layers of meaning and the character in the song
might have a struggle going on in their soul; that they are not always
be singing from a place of certainty, but that they are trying to work
out what's going on for themselves even whilst singing. This lends a
very theatrical element to the lyric that Peter really got hold of
fantastically.

Each song would have a scenario that you would be able to put yourself
in and relate to, so you can connect your emotion in performance. So,
for example, "With Someone Like You" is set in a situation where you are
facing the last moments of your life and want to look into the eyes of a
stranger and see Love, or "Will You Be Loved", where you are asking if
someone should give up their virginity and sleep with a potential lover,
or should they wait?

In practice, StoneLake would send a demo to Adam, where we'd have sung a
dummy lyric and then Adam would send back his lyric – he would sing it
himself – and he would have tried to keep key phrases we liked, as well
as using similar vowels and timing so that it stayed close to the
original creative idea that generated the tune. Adam's background in
working with great singers really helped here as he has a strong
understanding of how a singer wants to use vowels at the top of their
range and where they would breathe to get the right flow in the phrase.
All in all it was great fun for us all and we think it really helped
make the album fresh and exciting!

Peter Collins (producer among "Operation Mindcrime and" Empire "by

Queensryche) said the greatest good of you. How do you feel about the

very very good criticism internationnal about you?

We are very grateful and flattered for such a great reception of the
"Monolith" album.

It makes it worth to rock on!!

Live projects to come? A passage through France?

It would be great to visit your nice country and play , but sorry ,
there are no plans for France at this moment.

We will see what happens further on!

Thank you very much for this great interview and thanks to all our
French fans aswell!! Love ya!
